"Please tell the truth to the French!"

The French Minister of Industry, Éric Besson, in a televised debate against the leader of the Greens, unveils the fundamental weaknesses of wind and solar energies: intermittency, back-up by gas or coal-fired thermal plants, and a very high cost.

So the question is: why on earth is his government contracting more sovereign debt, and increasing the price of electricity, to finance them?
