Huge demonstration against wind energy
in the small italian region of Molise

Campobasso, Italy - November 23, 2010

One thousand people and fourty tractors gathered close to the archaeological area of the old Roman town of Altilia (one of the most beautiful and well preserved in Italy: a wind farm is planned on the nearby ridge) and marched to the city of Campobasso protesting against the regional politics and asking for a new law with stricter rules on the siting of wind farms. Many protested also against the growing presence of criminal organizations in Molise, like Mafia and Camorra, often linked to the wind and waste management industries.

The rally lasted all the morning and ended in front of the regional parliament. More than 120 associations supported the protests.

The small italian region of Molise has more than 400 MW of installed industrial wind power plants, with one of the highest density in Italy and further authorizations for more than 3,000 MW have been requested and are pending in the regional offices.
