VALE campaigners fighting plans for a wind farm in Lenchwick have joined a European organisation in a bid to influence EU policy.
Vale Villagers Against Scottishpower (VVASP) has become a member of the European Platform Against Windfarms (EPAW). It is made up of more than 300 groups and associations from across Europe who are opposing wind farm proposals.
The action group hopes that by supporting EPAW, the future development of onshore wind farms will make it on to the European electoral agenda and a moratorium will be declared.
Scottishpower Renewables wants to build a wind farm with up to 10 turbines in the Lenchwick and Lenches area.
A planning application for the development has not yet been submitted, but two wind monitoring masts have been installed in Sherriffs Lench and Norton.
The temporary masts will measure ‘wind resource' for the developers for three years.
VVASP say a wind farm would threaten residents' quality of life and that the Vale is not the right environment for a wind farm.
Chairman Rod Stroud said: “The Vale of Evesham, world famous for its fruit and asparagus growing areas, has never before been subjected to such enormous industrial proposals.”
EPAW's first press conference will be held in Brussels today. Members were invited to attend the meeting, called Windfarms, the modern plague of Europe.
EPAW was founded in Paris in October 2008 to defend the interests of its members.
